List Item closing tag is removed

I have tried to generate xhtml from the new 6.0 editor.

When I generate a bullet or numbered list the closing li tag keeps on getting removed, making the html not xhtml compliant.

Eg.

<ul>

<li>Second list item</li>

<li>Third list item</li>

</ul>

Becomes:

<ul>

<li>Some list item

<li>Second list item

<li>Third list item</li>

</ul>

Have a look at the following live example:

Some list item
Second list item
Third list item

Please help.

Cute Editor handles XHTML issue in the server side instead of the client side.

Please try the following example. After you click the submit button, you should receive the correct XHTML code.

Thanks Adam,

I tried that example and the xhtml was correct, but how do you get proper xhtml on the server side? Is it posible to load the an editor on the server side with some text and then get the xhtml out?

How does the example above work?

Rogchap,

Please use the Editor.XHTML property instead of Editor.Text property extract content from editor.

Editor.XHTML Property

Retrieves the CuteEditor HTML content in XHTML format.

Thanks Again for your help Adam,

I am now using the XHTML Property, however it seems to be formating the HTML like this:

<ul>

<li>Some list item

<li>Second list item

<li>Third list item</li></li></li>

</ul>

Which is wrong.

I tried copying my exact html into your example and that worked fine!? What am I doing wrong?

This example (http://cutesoft.net/example/xmloutput.aspx) is running latest build of Version 6.0.

Please upgrade to this version. Keep me posted.

That works now.

Just for your info:

I was using CuteEditor 6.0 Build 2006-04-23; which was causing the error.

CuteEditor 6.0 Build 2007-05-21 fixed it.

Here we go again...

I've got another problem with the way the editor is creating the xhtml for lists:

This time the problem is with nested lists. When I first create a a nested list this is the code that is saved:

<ul>
    <li>Some text 1</li>
    <li>More Text</li>
    <ul>
       <li>This is the nesed list</li>
       <li>More Text</li>
    </ul>
    <li>Final bit of text</li>
<ul>

When I use the XHTML Property sever side it does not change. I think that because all the closing tags are there that it does no correction. This is not valid xhtml.

If I reopen the document back into the editor it renders without closing li tags as before.

This time the XHTML Property knows that it needs to put in closing tags, and this time it is correct. eg

<ul>
    <li>Some text 1</li>
    <li>More Text
      <ul>
           <li>This is the nesed list</li>
       <li>More Text</li>
        </ul>
    </li>
    <li>Final bit of text</li>
<ul>

Can a fix be put into place to correct the xhtml on the first save, without having to reopen the document and save it again?

This is the browser behaviour. Cute Editor fixes the close tags issue in the server side instead of the client side.

Please try the following example. After you click the submit button, you should receive the correct XHTML code.

Hi Adam.

I'm aware that the close tag issue happens on the server side, however I tested my problem on your example and it did not render correct XHTML.

The following is the html I submitted in your example:

<ul>
    <li>Bullet 1</li>
    <li>Bullet 2</li>
    <li>Bullet 3</li>
    <ol>
      <li>Number 1</li>
      <li>Number 2</li>
    </ol>
    <li>Bullet 4</li>
</ul>

And once submitted I got :

<ul>
    <li>Bullet 1</li>
    <li>Bullet 2</li>
    <li>Bullet 3</li>
    <ol>
      <li>Number 1</li>
      <li>Number 2</li>
    </ol>
    <li>Bullet 4</li>
</ul>

Which is the same, but not valid XHTML. All elements do have closing tags, but the closing tags are in the wrong place. The closing tag of "Bullet 3" should appear after the closing "ol" tag, and not before the opening "ol" tag.

Not sure what's the problem.

Let us do a test in http://cutesoft.net/example/xmloutput.aspx:

Copy the following HTML code into this example:

<ul>
    <li>Bullet 1</li>
    <li>Bullet 2</li>
    <li>Bullet 3
          <ol>
             <li>Number 1</li>
             <li>Number 2</li>
           </ol>
    </li>
    <li>Bullet 4</li>
</ul>

You should get the correct result: The closing tag of "Bullet 3" should appear after the closing "ol" tag, and not before the opening "ol" tag.

Hi Adam,

The example you describe works as the html being submitted is in the correct format in the editor before it gets submitted.

Sorry about not understanding the problem; I can see why as I'm not very good at explaining things in words. Please bear with me and I will try to describe step by step:

Start in http://cutesoft.net/example/xmloutput.aspx
Clear all the html so that we have a fresh blank editor.
Type "Bullet 1" ...Enter...."Bullet 2"....Enter..."Bullet 3"...Enter
Type "Number 1"...Enter...."Number 2....Enter
Type "Bullet 4"...Enter
Select all the text an click on the "Insert Unordered List" button
Then select only the "Number 1" & "Number 2" text
Click on the "Indent Text" button
Then with the "Number 1" etc text still selected click on the "Insert Ordered List"
Hit the "Submit" button

This produces:

<ul>
    <li>Bullet 1</li>
    <li>Bullet 2</li>
    <li>Bullet 3</li>
        <ol>
             <li>Number 1</li>
             <li>Number 2</li>
        </ol>
    <li>Bullet 4</li>
</ul>

You should see that the closing "li" tag on "Bullet 3" is in the wrong place.
