When editing in HTML SPAN tags are automatically removed. How can we prevent that?

I want to keep the as it is needed for a specific layout

The disappears when working with CHROME but remains if working with IE.

I tested this issue both Chrome 5.0.375 and IE8.0, it works on my end, the steps are as follows,

1. Open link http://cutesoft.net/asp/EnableAll.asp , and switch to "HTML"

2. Input <a href="xyz">Text</a> in html code editor area

3. Switch back to "Normal", the span tag is not removed

What's your operation steps?
