Adam, there seems to be a compatibility issue with CuteChat version 5 and Internet Explorer 8. Works as expected in IE 7 but I get the below on IE 8. I have been able to reproduce this consistently. Any idea on a fix?

We've tested Cute Chat 5.0 using IE 8.0 and it works fine.

I'm totally baffled in that case.

I see that the link you sent me does work, but than what could it be in my case?

I consistently get the Object Expected error in IE8 only (tested running on xp and vista). I've tried at least 4 different machines.

IE7/FF works fine without any issues.

Any help would be great...

Ok, quick update for those who might be struggling with the same issue.

In my case, it had to do with the DocType definition.

We use:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

But changing it to below fixes the error:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">

I guess CuteChat is not XHTML compliant (?).

Funny thing is, it only occurs on IE 8, not IE7.

Oh well...

Hey there. I was able to get chat working in IE8 Beta, but testing in RC 1, it fails. What file did you change to get this working?? appreciate any help. We're supposed to go live tomorrow.

Rick, for us we made the change in the master page (since we're using using .net 2.0).

But depending on what enviornment you have setup, try changing the DocType definition as described in my earlier post.

I've been having this issue also, but didn't want to change my doctype definitions as this broke more than it fixed.

You can target IE8 via meta tags to behave like IE7 with this tag:

I encounter the same issue with IE8. I suspect that the web site exemple http://dotnetdate.com/CuteSoft_Client/CuteChat/Channel.Aspx?Place=Lobby-2 is not based on the same version than mine. I use the 5.1.0.0 release.

I think I have the latest version. The demo version I downloaded is here

Dear anne-marie,

http://cutesoft.net/downloads/folders/chat_current_releases/entry21915.aspx , this link is latest release.

You can put the mouse cursor over CuteChat.dll and read the control information, it contains the control version and date created.

Is there a specific feature that i should watch or parametrize?

Hi Adam,

Sorry for the delay.

I tried the Stand alone version on my server it works without the previously mentionned error .

But I still don't understand why, in my integration project, the Cute Chat' javascript causes the same error as TICKERME mentionned one year ago.
