your sample works fine in safari

however the editor component in our application is still disabled when viewed with safari

 

it's an asp.net application - we believe that the rendering for the safari browser maybe is not correct. (in asp.net application you can set 'browsercaps' http://slingfive.com/pages/code/browserCaps/)
