I did find one way to enable the textarea while viewing in FireFox.  When I select "Normal" instead of the default "Paragraph" style from the dropdown it then allows me to edit the text.

Any support on how I can fix this when CE is loaded would be greatly appreciated; otherwise I cannot go live.
