I have seen this problem posted before and apparently closed down as fixed. I am running demo version 5.3.0.0 with a file date of 13 November 2006, 17:12:00.
When I add HTML as follows to the editor:
<span style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: yellow">Random highlighted text</span>
then run either of the above methods, my HTML gets tidied up rather too much and the style attribute is lost.
You can demo this on your own pages by entering some text and highlighting it using the HightLight dropdown, then running the CleanUpHTMLCode() method. The html entered legitimately via the editor is now gone!
Is this fixed in the purchased code?
