I tried the sample from the link and it reproduces my problem exactly.

 

Click on the "False" radio button to disable readonly.  Then double click on the word "type" to highlight it.  Clicking either the font color or the font background color button doesnt affect the text (i.e. the text is not set to red and the background is not set to yellow).
