Any chance I can change this behavior myself (so I don't have to wait for a new release)?

 

When I set AutoConfigure="None" (for users who have insufficient rights) they should be able to see the current style but shouldn't update styles (just text). However if they can press Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I or Ctrl+U, there's still a way around...
