I was going by the current documentation and it appears this still hasn't been updated for the PHP edition. I kept on getting strange results even though in the editor everything appeared fine.

 

Your post has resolved my problem. If any of the site admins see this, please bump the priority on this and fix the documentation regarding this issue as it is incorrect in the documentation.
