Character sets, and chars like ® © etc.

Hi, My name is Mark Lawrence,
I've got an application using the cute editor that is being used to generate a content for a commercial web site.  So our customer wants to put in characters like the registered trade mark symbol.  When I use the character map to enter characters, or cut and paste from html containing ® etc, the editor seems to translate it into the windows character set (a guess) which the application then saves.  Is there any way to configure the editor to preserve/translate chars > 0x7E into &#xxx; format or into their &name; formats?

    Thanks,
    Mark,
