Medium Trust?

I am having a bit of trouble getting the Gallery going on a shared server.

Does the app work under medium trust?

I am getting an error saying "That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers"

I tested this by putting <trust level="Medium" /> into the web.config and it returns an error. Putting <trust level="Full" /> it obviously works but not many people like running things in Full nor does my host!

Dont know if this helps but it throws an exception of :

{"Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed."}

This Medium trust seems to have been an issue on other CuteSoft apps as well...

I am battling this same error. The galleries work fine on localhost, but after it is published to the shared site on 1and1, I get this exception.

Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers.

Hi MADCookie,

Its most likely your host is enforcing medium trust. The best way to test locally (if your host is enforcing medium trust) is to put <trust level="Medium"/> in to your web.config. Then you can be sure its your app that has difficulty running in medium trust mode.

Also contact your ISP to confirm they are enforcing medium trust though.

Adam,

That is the exact same version of the dll as the dll contained in the application download. Is there a newer version?

Well, 1&1 don't like me changing trust. This rasied a new exception I've not seen before:

Configuration Error

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: This configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the site administrator has locked access to this section using <location allowOverride="false"> from an inherited configuration file.

No go on that DLL, it is exactly the same as what I am currently using. So do you have a FAQ on this issue? What's going on?

Funny story (I think) I called 1&1 and mentioned I'm trying to use a 3rd-party DLL. The phone supporter said in a shaky voice, "You are installing d.l.l.?" Oh, I knew I was in SERIOUS trouble.

Here is what 1&1 claim they are restricting. Adam, will any of these stop me from using DotNetGallery?

Have you mentioned it's a .NET dll instead of ActiveX Dll?

It doesn't need installation at all. It only needs to be copied to project bin folder.

Adam,

I like you and all, but is this going to be the same DLL again? :)

Also, did you look at that list of restrictions at 1&1 hosting? Is there anything on that list that jumps out at you saying DNG will not function properly?

p.s. I had to release my site to the client. I also had to use 1&1's built-in image gallery. It so stinks. Managing it is the biggest pain in my rear. I have to go through their tool to add images and I can't point to a directory. I am also limited to 5 galleries. GRRR. I really hope this "new" DLL will resolve my issues.

Thanks Adam,

That new dll did the trick. It now supports <trust level="Medium"/>

Hey MADCookie dont know if you put <trust level="Medium"/> in to your web.config but it can cause issues on ISP hosts so if you have put that in there you should take it out and it should run fine now. Mine is running perfectly!

I added this dll to my bin on my local machine (running at http://localhost:1615) and now it hates my license file. What's up? Did I not add the DLL correctly? Do I have to get another .lic file?

The License for Gallery is not valid.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.ComponentModel.LicenseException: The License for Gallery is not valid.

Sorry to spike this on the list, but I would like to get it working. Apparently the new DLL will work, but my license file is not valid anymore.

What do I need to do to get the DLL licensed correctly?
