    CuteEditor 6.x Crashes in IE7 & IE8

    One of my clients discovered an error when they were doing some content editing on their site. When changing some of the content, font's, font size, color the editor would hang and an unresponsive script message would appear or just hang.

     

    To reproduce this problem…

     

    STEP 1: Paste this HTML (I would post this as a code block but I get an error in the code insert tool. See bottom of post for this error)

    STEP 2: In “normal” mode highlight the text at the top that is a light color (PHYSICIAN EDUCATION WORKSHOP PARK HYATT HOTEL, TORONTO, ON / SATURDAY, APRIL 10TH, 2010 – 8am-6pm BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY FOR MEN & WOMEN).

     

    STEP 3:  Go to the text color button click and select “automatic” this will cause the editor to crash. I’ve tested this locally and in the online demo. Both crash when doing the above. (Script is causing internet explorer to run slowing, stop running script)

    you can validate your html code at   http://validator.w3.org/check, there are a lot of html error, these error promote this issue.
    When you paste html code from other application, you need make sure that those html code is correct.

    Hello Eric,
     
    I agree this HTML is not that clean; however, it was taken from a PDF and copied and pasted to the editor.  In my local version of the editor I have the "PasteAsCleanHTML" set as on.  This doesn't seem to have an effect on the data being copied.  This is an end user that found this issue so asking them to "clean" the HTML bu hand will not work.  Is there any way to fix this issue or is there a workaround we can use?

    Kenneth, would you mind explaining what UseFontTags will do? Some of my clients are having these same problems.

    Font tags are now deprecated, meaning that they aren't used any more and will cause validation errors. Many legacy pages still contain style information in font tags. It is possible to resolve this by replacing with style tags instead.
    CSS styles can be overriden by browser settings whereas font tags can't, therefore styles are much better for accessibility. In addition, because the browser can't override font tags, it's not possible for users to make changes if they have a high resolution screen and the font size is too small to be legible, or if the text cannot be displayed at all because the user doesn't have the right font.
    By default Cute Editor converts font tags to span tags. <font face=times color=#ffffff size=4>your text</font> would be replaced with <span style="FONT-SIZE: 110%; COLOR: #ffffff; FONT-FAMILY: times, serif"><font size=4>your text</font></span>.
    If you still want to use font tags, you can set Editor.UseFontTags property to true.
