Add dropdown to toolbar?

Hi, I'd like to create a dropdown on the toolbar to display a list of text strings that can be inserted into the editor whereever the cursor is. What would be the most pain-free way to do this? Are there examples of something similar?

The Code Snippet dropdown of CuteEditor by default displays a predefined set of Code Snippets. You can easily modify this default to fit your requirements:

thanks for the reply.

can i add a "brand spanking new" dropdown? if not, can i change the name from "code snippets" to something more meaningful to my app?

also i assume it's possible to display only the drop down i want to (or is it all or nothing?)

You can rename the "code snippets" to something more meaningful to your app.

Step 1:

Open the CuteSoft_Client/CuteEditor/Languages/_default.xml or other lanauage file

Step 2:

Find the following code:

<resource name="Codes">Code Snippet</resource>

Step 3:

Rename the "code snippets" to something more meaningful to your app:

<resource name="Codes">Whatever</resource>

Adam,

We are using similar functionality as described here but I have an addtional question.

Can we use multiple "code snippet" dropdowns throughout our application?

For example, we use it to allow the user to insert certain data fields but the fields are different in different sections of the application. When sending an email, there may be 5 "snippets" but when creating a page heading, there may be 10 "snippets". So if the code snippets had to be the same throughout the application, it wouldn't work.

Randy,

You can just create your own custom buttons and add them into the editor toolbar.

I want to add a new dropdown, and I know the toolbar controls index of where I want to put it.

It puts my dropdown there, but pushes all the other dropdowns below it, making it look awkward and messed up.

can u help (if this makes sense) ? thx,

I am using the Editor1.ToolControls.Insert(x,myControl) method where x is the index of the control currently located where I want to put my new dropdown.

When you add custom dropdown, you'd better add it into the dropdown group as well. If you addd it into the tool button group, you may have layout problem.

Example:

int pos=Editor1.ToolControls.IndexOf("CssStyle")+1;

ok i will try that. if it works, i may have to create a custom .config file just for my feature.

i was originally thinking i could use the "codes" dropdown and modify its contents as you demonstrate.

i checked the .config file we are using and the "codes" xml entry is there, only visibility is set to "false" (so it doesn't appear).

but when i search for the Dropdown in my C# using the API, it isn't found.

Is this because visibility = "false"?

I am not sure what you mean.

The following line in my code is returning null:

Editor1.ToolControl toolCtrl = Editor1.ToolControls["codes"]

whereas this line succeeds:

Editor1.ToolControl toolCtrl2 = Editor1.ToolControls["CssClass"]

The only difference between the two dropdowns in my .config file is that the "codes" entry has Visibility set to false. So I was asking if this is the reason why my 1st statement fails?
