    Paste from MS Word problems

Maybe this is an ongoing problem as Web editors fight with Word's "helpful markup" that's not so helpful.

I'm having trouble pasting in from Word but "garbage" is left in the HTML.  When I paste into CuteEditor.NET I get the pop up that asks if I'd like to clean the code. I say yes, but I'm still left with garbage code that's messing up my layout.

    A typical example:

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-indent: 0.5in; line-height: 150%">In July 2009, its original owners, a company affiliated with the Kenan family, sold it to the UNC at Chapel Hill Foundation Inc. That set up a rare opportunity for the University to have a direct role in the evolution of downtown &#8212; and to make money from prime real estate.</p>

Any ideas on how I might clean up everything, leaving only bold, italics, and paragraph and line breaks?

Yes, when I paste into that editor (on your site) from one of our Word documents, I still get the extra garbage code.

I will email you the Word Doc.

    HTML excerpt:

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; line-height: 150%"><em><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%; font-family: 'Times New Roman'">When Chancellor </span></em><em><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%; font-family: 'Times New Roman'">Holden Thorp</span></em><em><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%; font-family: 'Times New Roman'"> &#8217;86 became dean of UNC&#8217;s College of Arts and Sciences in 2007, he made clear his keen interest in academic entrepreneurship &#8212; the practice of creating opportunities for oneself not only in a career but while studying for it at the university. Just sent it in an attachement.  Subject line: Paste from Word

I'm on a .edu email address and I know that sometimes those are more likely to get flagged by spam filters for some reason... so just FYI.

    thanks for your help.

Uhhh... spammer above? [Yay! Spam post deleted]

    Anyway...

We're still seeing this issue and are also noting that font colors are being inserted where they shouldn't be.  Typically again on a copy/paste.

    <div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><strong>Listen to this forum</strong> by logging in to Carolina I-Tunes U and downloading the presentation (at no charge): <span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial" ><a href="http://itunes.unc.edu/"><font color="#0000ff">http://itunes.unc.edu/</font> </a>. </span> </div>

None of the highlighted text in the above code is intended.  The font color is also appearing when copying from the Web and pasting into the tool, even when the font color tag isn't included in the original HTML. Where's it coming from?
