In Firefox, Insert Column causes column to display w/out cell separations.  (Separate cells do exist.) 

Clicking cursor within newly inserted cell, text cannot be entered (and Cell/Row Properties menus fail to appear when those buttons are clicked). 

 

However, if you click your cursor into adjacent cell and Tab into the new cell, text can be typed and Properties can be viewed.
