How the Canadian take-home pay estimate works
Enter your total annual employment salary in Canadian dollars and select the province or territory where you both work and live. The calculator estimates federal and provincial income taxes, then subtracts employee pension contributions and employment insurance. Quebec uses QPP, its reduced EI rate and QPIP. The annual result is divided by your selected pay frequency to make budgeting easier. It is an average, not a prediction of a particular paycheque.
Which 2026 rules are included?
The calculation uses full-year tax brackets, basic personal credits, the federal employment amount and the deduction for additional pension contributions. It includes Ontario surtax, the Ontario health premium and basic Ontario and British Columbia tax reductions. Quebec’s federal abatement and worker deduction are included. Northwest Territories and Nunavut results include the two-percent employee payroll tax for someone working there throughout the year. Updated annual rules incorporate the 2026 midyear announcements, rather than treating temporary payroll catch-up rates as annual rates.
Why might my payslip or tax return differ?
The model assumes one employer and an employee aged eighteen to sixty-four throughout the year, with full-year pension participation. It does not model job changes, cross-province employment, pension exemptions, noncash taxable benefits or individual payroll timing. Family-dependent and other low-income credits, including Ontario LIFT, provincial reductions outside Ontario and British Columbia, refundable benefits, tuition, donations and Quebec prescription-drug premiums are excluded. These exclusions can make the estimate higher than your final tax bill. Your payroll department’s deductions and your filed return remain the relevant records.
How do optional deductions work?
Employee RRSP or registered-pension contributions reduce both taxable income and available cash in this scenario. Check your actual contribution room before entering an amount. Ordinary after-tax deductions reduce available cash without lowering the model’s taxable income. Do not enter the same cost twice. Employer contributions, contribution-room calculations and tax refunds from prior years are not included.
Can I compare provinces or save the figures?
Change the province while keeping salary and deductions the same, then calculate again. Review the breakdown rather than comparing only the headline amount. Copy the summary or download the CSV for your own records. Entries are processed locally in your browser and are not submitted by this calculator. Rates were checked on September 17, 2026; this is an estimate for budgeting, not payroll software or a tax filing service.
