A LITTLE CONTEXT

Useful answers.

How this tool works

Paste the original and updated text, then compare. Green + lines were added and red − lines were removed; unchanged lines keep their original order. Comparison is line-based, with a maximum of 1,000 lines and 100,000 characters per version. Line endings are normalized. A trailing newline is treated as an empty final line.

How is this different from the text compare tool?

Both compare two versions in your browser; this one presents the result as an added, removed and unchanged line list, which reads more like a code review. Use whichever layout suits the material.

Does it ignore whitespace and blank lines?

Differences in leading whitespace and blank lines are shown, because in code and in configuration files they can matter. If you only care about wording, strip the text first with the text cleaner.

Can I compare files from my computer?

Paste both versions in. Nothing is uploaded, so the comparison is safe for unreleased drafts, licence keys or configuration files.
